Developing a competitive natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova
In recent years, the competitive natural gas market in the Republic of Moldova has started to develop. There are currently 29 licenses to supply natural gas. However, the market is still dominated by a few big players.
Regulated vs. negotiated prices:
Regulated prices: The regulated prices are approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) and are used for the supply of natural gas in the context of the service obligation.
Negotiated prices: On the retail gas market, suppliers sell natural gas at negotiated prices which reflect the costs of purchase, transportation, distribution and supply of natural gas, including the costs of contracting natural gas storage, fees and taxes charged, on the basis of bilateral contracts concluded with them. They are usually lower than regulated prices and may be adjusted in line with prices on European exchanges.
